ONEIA's Golf day: blue skies, policy and play

The Royal Ontario Golf Club played host for the third time to ONEIA's "Go Green on the Green" golf day on July 15.  More than 120 attendees joined us for a great day of golfing and networking on a bright sunny and cool summer day.

The sold-out event started with a morning program, graciously sponsored by RWDI, during which Heather Pearson, Director Air Policy Instruments and Program Design Branch at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change presented an update on the developments with regard to the new cap-and-trade system roll out process.

After the presentation, attendees had the opportunity to do some networking before taking off in their carts for a shotgun start at 12:30 PM at their designated hole.

Across the course, good networking opportunities and many nice refreshments such as smoothies, frozen grapes, different beers were enjoyed at the staffed holes and filled the golf field with a nice buzz.

Despite many good efforts to score the Hole-in-One, sponsored this year by SGS CANADA, the exciting prize, trip filled with sunshine and golf to Phoenix, Arizona provided by Goliger's Travel was (unfortunately) not claimed.

Back at the clubhouse at day's end, golfers were welcomed with cool drinks in the company of three Earth Rangers animal ambassadors, a barn owl, a kestrel and a ring-tailed lemur.  Earth Rangers, ONEIA’s charity of choice that introduces children to the natural environment.

The event concluded with a "marche-style" dinner and the award presentations.

During dinner, attendees could enjoy some action shots and spectacular moves shown on a rotating powerpoint presentation with pictures taken by Brittany Demmer, Caleb Jefferies and Rohit Saxena over the course of the day.

ONEIA Go Green on the Green 2015 saw Mark Cathcart, Pat O'Neil, Monique Smart, and Mike Muir as Team Stratasoil, win the prize of best team, with a score of nine under par. See below for the other awards.

To all those golfers and sponsors who supported our day - thank you!
